A leading figure in the Midland Freemasons has been left badly injured in a hit and run accident in Wolverhampton city centre. Grandfather of two Barrie Rouse, aged 69, was returning to the Civic car park after a shopping trip to buy new shoes when it is thought he was struck by a taxi and a cyclist at the junction of Darlington Street and Victoria Street. Mr Rouse, who is secretary for the Provincial Grand Lodge of Freemasons in Staffordshire and attends the Tettenhall Road lodge, has been told he is likely to be in hospital for between six and eight weeks. His son Stephen, aged 39, said: "It could be two years before he makes a full recovery. They've had to rebuild his elbow and he's got pins and screws in it. He's cracked his pelvis and they've had to put him in traction. "He's not very well to be truthful. He's been in a lot of excruciating pain pain and they've given him morphine. "We're just trying to do our little bit to find out who who saw what and if there are any witnesses who can help." Mr Rouse, who works at the Ren New building materials firm in Four Ashes, South Staffordshire, said his father's memory of the crash was unclear. It is thought he was struck by a cyclist and a taxi and neither stayed to help. Members of the public came to help and one called 999. An ambulance took Mr Rouse to hospital after the accident, which happened at around 2.30pm last Tuesday. Mr Rouse, of Woodcote Road, Tettenhall, lives with his wife Sandra, aged 65. He also has a daughter, Debbie, aged 42, who lives in Tettenhall, and granddaughters Abbie and Chloe, aged 11 and seven. In 2009, Mr Rouse joined fellow Freemasons to hand over a 4,000 to the Staffordshire Air Ambulance appeal. Anyone who saw the accident, or has any information about it, should contact Wolverhampton police on 0345 113 5000 or call the free Crimestoppers number anonymously on 0800 555 111. Even grade 8 grad is a big time in a girls life. This is a night for my daughter to remember but it shouldn't cost me and my husband a fortune. For many parents prom is an expensive time of year and families are struggling financially to give their son or daughter the perfect night that they will remember a life time. Well there is no reason why you can't give them that night but on a budget you can afford. I have put together ten tips to help you save a few dollars. Attending a prom doesn't have to cost a fortune. Prom night doesn't have to break us. Girls the memories of prom will not be if you spent 20 dollars to get your nails done or arrived in a limo. The memories will be of who you were in school and the special times that you all shared. 1. The Tuxedo: Boys why bother renting that tuxedo when you can purchase a nice suit that you can wear again for under the cost of renting that tuxedo. 2. Hair and makeup: Girls the cost of hair and makeup is expensive. The boys are lucky they don't have to fork out this one. Hair, Makeup you're looking at an additional 80 dollars. For makeup call your local department store and see about getting your make up done on Prom day, also call around to your local salons and see if they have a package deal that includes both hair and makeup. You can also save money by having your mother put up your hair. Look at some of the styles for prom online and make a fun night with mom practicing the styles before the prom. You could also get in touch with Mary K and plan a makeup party early in the afternoon on prom day and the Mary K host will do your makeup free. 3. Limos: They are nice but they are so traditional and cost a lot. Why not gather a group of your friends together and do something off the wall. Arrive at your prom on the city bus or contact your school and rent a school bus for the evening and have all your friends pitch in. 4. The dress: Girls purchasing a new dress will cost you 200 dollars and for what something you won't wear again or will sit in your keep sake box. Why not shop on Ebay or your local used clothing store and get a dress for under the cost and then just pay the additional cost to have it dry cleaned. You may also want to check around with family and see if they have a bridesmaids dress or maybe your cousin still has her prom dress that you can borrow. 5. The flowers: Purchasing flowers from the flower store is going to cost you around 20 dollars. You can go to the craft store purchase the supplies to make your own corsages and boutonni for half the cost. They are so simple and fun to make. Make a fun day of it and invite your g/f over to make them with you. 6. The photos: Why hire a professional photographer when you can have dad take some nice photos with his digital camera and you can delete the ones that you don't like. Then you can save even more money by emailing them to friends and family. 7. Parties: Save on the big prom party. Gather a bunch of your friends together and have a fun post prom party. Some ideas might be a pool party or a bowling party. 8. The Jewelry: Girls, girls why pay the expensive cost of Jewelry when Mom and Grandma might have their own personal jewelry store right in their bedroom. The sentiments of borrowing something from Grandma will be more special than anything new that you purchase from the store for this special day. 9. The dinner: Save money by having a backyard barbeque or a romantic dinner at home with candles and the works and order take out. 10. Nails and Shoes: If your city has a beauty school, you can make a nail appointment and have a student put nails on you for a discounted price . You can exchange shoes with friends or purchase a nice pear of white pumps that you can wear again and again. Air Jordan 7 French Blue 2015 So there I stood, feeling incredibly stupid. Having waited in line for a few minutes to return a paperback copy of Harry Potter, which I realized I already owned once I brought it home, I stood face to face with the cashier. I looked over his shoulder and ready "Barnes and Nobles", I looked down at the imprint on my plastic bag "Waldenbooks". I paused , turned beet red and said "Oops, I am obviously in the wrong place". I started to turn and leave when he gently stopped me with the words "If we carry that book we would be happy to refund it for you". "Really???" I asked. "Sure no problem let me have a look". He determined that he already had 24 copies in stock and was more than happy to take one more. He handed me a credit card looking store credit, had me sign a receipt and that was that. But that was not the end of the story. I was so blown away and so grateful I decided to go buy a CD. Now the CD was about twice what my refund was so I handed the card and the money and I took my CD and left But that was still not the end of the story. As soon as I got out of the store I called my brother and 5 of my friends to tell them about this amazing customer service. And now of course I am telling you, too. So let's look at this story and see what actally occurred. Barnes and Nobles made an "Investment on my Return". What exactly was the "cost" of this investment? Perhaps there was a cost for training the employee that taught him to act in this kind and generous way. But other than that it cost them nothing. Okay maybe there was some cost for restocking. They will surely sell that other copy. But then we need to reverse this formula and see what the Return on Investment was. Here is where the real power of this theory is seen. They not only were repaid their initial outlay of $7.99, they received an additional $7.99 that I most surely would not have spent otherwise. They received free word of mouth advertising (which is far more powerful and effective than traditional advertising) and they created a loyal, raving fan customer. "Returns" are often emotionally charged events. Think about it. People return things that "don't fit", that they "don't like" , that they "can't afford" , "wasn't what they expected", that are of "inferior quality", that" they don't need" or "they don't want" For a lot of your customers returns are either embarrassing, filled with disappointment or frustration or at the very least a major inconvenience. How you handle this touchy situation will impact on your customer's decision to continue doing business with you. There are many stories going around about how Nordstrom would take anything in a return (including a car engine). Of course you don't have to go to that extreme to make your return policy fair, easy and effective. What does it take to create a return atmosphere that will keep your customers coming back? Your customers need to know your policy inside out. This is especially true if your business has strict regulations. If they need to have a receipt to return the product then it is best to say to the customer as they are checking our "Remember if you need to return this we require the receipt. Would you like it in the bag or would you like to have it?" Granted this will not guarantee that the customers will remember but it does help. Also have the return policy displayed at the check out line and on the receipt.
