In another fortnight, Cyberabad traffic police will be linking their traffic violation challan data with that of Hyderabad police. As of now, if a motorist has a pending e challan or a drunken driving case booked against him/her in Cyberabad, there is no way traffic police of Hyderabad could realize it even if they key in the vehicle registration number in GPRS enabled PDAs. "We have procured high capacity servers to store e challan and other traffic violation data. The data will be connected to the traffic police server at Hyderabad commissionerate. Once this is done, irrespective of the location of the offence, the accused cannot escape police and the challan amount collected will go to the respective commissionerate where the offence was committed. Repeat offenders in cases like drunken driving can also be effectively monitored," Cyberabad police commissioner C V Anand told TOI. Cops are also working on linking RTA database with police servers so that suspension or revocation of driving licence for serial offenders could be implemented. Hyderabad police currently have 150 GPRS enabled Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) to issue an electronic spot challan to a traffic offender. On similar lines, Cyberabad police are issuing 50 high end PDAs with credit or debit card swipe facility to traffic officials. "Payment through a card will make an offender believe that the money is not going anywhere else but to the government and it will bring in transparency," Cyberabad DCP (Traffic) Avinash Mohanty said. As nearly half of accident accused are not having third party insurance, which covers the cost of victim's medical treatment and compensation in case of death, Cyberabad police have decided to issue e challans for Rs 1,000 as per the MV Act to all such motorists.
