Modules are numbered according to a University of Birmingham scheme which is not equivalent to the numbering schemes in American or other universities and colleges. In choosing modules, you should be guided by the year of study in which the modules are offered to British degree students, rather than the module number. Bear in mind that most bachelors degrees in the UK are of three years duration. In general, second and third year courses will qualify as upper division. First year courses should be regarded as lower division. If you have queries about the suitability of a particular modules or level of modules, the Study Abroad and Exchanges Office will be happy to give advice. The online module page on our website, lists the modules which the University regularly provides. Most of the modules listed are available every year as they form a permanent part of particular undergraduate degree programmes. Some modules may be unavailable in a given year for various reasons, such as those affecting staff leave of absence, resignation, or new appointments. Up to date information is available from the Study Abroad and Exchanges Office. If we have to withdraw a module for which you have applied, we will suggest alternatives to you. If the availability of a particular module is essential to your plans, please enquire specifically about its availability when you apply. Many modules can be taken by all students but in some cases we require evidence of previous study of the subject or of a related subject. The pre requisites are referred to in the module descriptions in the on line catalogue. If you are in doubt about your eligibility for a module for which there are pre requisites, please include brief details of your previous study when you apply. If a department considers that you are not eligible for enrolment for a module, they will suggest alternatives for which you would be eligible..

We watch in awe and admiration as teams of colleagues, family and friends join together for one remarkable day to bring Terry's vision and mission to life. It is a special and inspirational day for so many people, including the thousands of cancer patients and their families for who hope is essential. Terry's call to action in 1980, asking $1 from every Canadian, has been answered close to 500 million times. These dollars have allowed the foundation to fund research into a variety of forms of cancer, including lung, breast, brain, prostate, ovarian, and so many more. All contributions of both time and funds have a vital impact on the brilliant work of Canadian researchers. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run, and it seems hard to believe that so many years have gone by. We want to do our very best to make this year special in remembrance of this remarkable young man and what has been accomplished in his name. Your community has been a solid supporter of our foundation since 1982 and has raised a total of over $27,600, an accomplishment that you can be very proud of. This year we are without an organizer for the 30th Annual Terry Fox Run in the New Glasgow area and are looking for a team of persons who will carry on this wonderful tradition in your community. We want to make sure that all those who support us will once again have opportunity to do so, particularly in this anniversary year. We can provide all the materials you need to hold this event and are waiting to hear from you, to know that you will continue to make a difference in the lives of so many. Brand New Authentic Men Nike Free Run 4.0 V2 Dark Obsidian Silver Soar Blue,Men Nike Free Run 3.0 V4 Wolf Grey Game Royalblue Wolf Grey Faced with poor adoption of Windows 8, and no clear sign that matters will improve any time soon, Microsoft is thinking about releasing a free or low cost version of Windows 8.1 called 8.1 with Bing. The theory is that, by providing a free (or perhaps low cost) version of Windows 8.1, users of Windows XP, Vista, and 7, will finally be convinced to upgrade, driving up its anemic market share. Microsoft hopes to offset the massive loss of income by pushing more users towards services like Bing, OneDrive, and Office. This follows news from MWC 2014 that Microsoft is also considering a similar move for Windows Phone. Desperate times call for desperate measures. News of Windows 8.1 with Bing comes from Wzor, a rather renowned Windows leaker from Russia. As it stands, this new build appears to be a fairly normal version of Windows 8.1 Update 1. Microsoft insiders tell ZDNet that Windows 8.1 with Bing key to Microsoft experimentation with monetization. As for why there doesn yet appear to be any money grabbing monetization, it likely that this is just a very early build. We have no idea if Windows 8.1 with Bing will debut at the same time as Update 1 (due to be released on April 8), or whether it following its own separate schedule. The big question, of course, is how Microsoft actually intends to recoup the massive loss of revenue by giving away Windows 8.1 for free. There is some revenue to be gained from OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) and Skype subscriptions (both of which come pre installed in Windows 8.1), but we talking relative peanuts to the billions of dollars that Windows licensing brings in per quarter. (Plus, OneDrive and Skype are available for all other Windows platforms anyway.) The most likely clue is the name of the build Windows 8 has always had tight integration with Bing, and 8.1 Update 1 further cements it. Microsoft is working hard to make Bing much more than just a web search engine some kind of deep querying analytical engine that links together all of your Microsoft devices, services, and subscriptions but still, we have no clue how Microsoft intends to make money from it. (Read:Windows 9 coming in 2015, will try its hardest to distance itself from the Windows 8 train wreck.) Still, it significant that Microsoft is even looking at releasing a free version of Windows. If someone had suggested such an idea at Old Microsoft, they probably would been fired. To be honest, at this point in Windows 8 life cycle, and with the PC market continuing to fade, it probably not a bad idea for Microsoft to be exploring some drastic changes. Microsoft obviously needs to change something if it wants to continue competing in the PC and smartphone markets. If it has to give away its operating systems to grow its market shares until they non trivial, then so be it. It not like Microsoft can afford to experiment for a while, especially if it a matter of life and death. Tagged InI don see the need of that for Microsoft. Windows is basically a monopoly on PC Desktops, currently the huge majority of PC users don even consider any non Microsoft alternative. I guess that Microsoft best move is to finally release a new Windows that make us want to update (like their did with Windows 7 vs Vista, although if they insist in their Metro UI craziness I don see myself wanting to update anytime soon). Another story would be if they had a rival pressuring them. Windows Phone and Windows RT, on the other hand, probably will need some desperate measure like this one. I don think people updated to 7 because they felt like they had to update. People were just more ready for something new then than they are now. People were ready for the next thing after XP. All these products out there selling more than Microsoft products, can we honestly say that each version has something so special about it, that people just feel like they have to upgrade. I don really see the problem with Metro. Microsoft just needs to tweak it, so you don feel the need to go back to the desktop. Stuff like the power button should have been there from day 1. They just need to make things that are obvious in Windows 7 just as obvious in Windows 8. But Metro isn going anywhere, but Microsoft does see a need to move people to Windows 8 if others don The reason they feel the need to do it is because the people who want full Windows on a tablet are a small group. Only a handful of us desire a system like a Surface Pro or a Dell Venue. The more people they can get people moved over to Windows 8, the more they can move people to Surface and Windows Phone. Maybe they don need to give it away for free, but they do need to do whatever they can to get more people adopting the tile based interface and using Microsoft services. The average customer that comes into a computer store probably hated differences between XP and 7. The average customer probably hated when the IE icon was removed from the desktop. I can count how many times I had to just make an IE shortcut or use the registry hack to restore the icon, even when there was already a task bar IE icon. The average customer I run into wants something new, but wants it to be almost exactly the same as the old thing. A basic principle is to give to your costumer what want, not what want. If you angry them and keep saying them that you know what they should do better than themselves, they will switch to other options. Was so hard to leave the Classic Menu as an user option and keep it as legacy for several versions before removing it definitely when your users are already used to a new UI ?. I don want Metro UI at the moment (nor in the foreseeable future), so I won update. It time for Microft for start selling something I would want to buy, not something they want to force upon me. You got the point exactly. Since people hated Metro, MS should have released a version called Redux W7 Look that eliminates Metro and have the Win7 UI since it is a shell anyway and supports all the drivers for Win8 that most people will need (not want, but need for compatibility with devices). Then their problem would be solved in short order. But they had to push and push the tiled interface etc that people just hated since they are so used to where things are and now everything is in a way. Usability goes from 9 to zero!. Yet MS is silent about that ?!. You can fix stupid unfortanately. Just look at iOS now compared to everything else on the market and yet still they buy. An iOS or Android tablet is in no way comparable to a Windows 8 tablet. What exactly is so difficult to overcome about Metro/Modern UI? It is really pretty simple, practical and far more flexible than iOS. Plus, you have the option or switching to/from the desktop when you need a desktop and using Metro for tablet type tasks. Metro has side by side. Tiles can be BOTH icons and widgets, without having to mix and match on 10 homescreens as you must do with Android. If you want to get hold of an icon for something installed you can just flick down to the full list of apps and do not have to navigate through screen after screen of the wonderful grids that Apple decided to lump us with and Android copied. There were more practical UI than iOS/Android in 1985 to be frank! Windows 8 tablets and phones are long overdue for some uptake, especially in the US. You will notice that Windows devices have more traction in Europe, the US stubbornly clings to the highest Apple usage despite obvious shortcomings and over pricing. People don get that Window monopoly means nothing for business computers. Everyone is now on their Android or Apple devices all day and then when they get home they play on their Android and Apple devices as well. Where does that leave Windows? Windows had monopolies in the homes as well back in the day. Now even their business computer model is under attack because companies like Google are trying to take that as well. So unless Windows does something smart like what Google did which was offer everything for free pretty much, you are out of luck! You not only have to give away your product, but you have to make it better than Google Also, you then have to hope that the consumer want to bother with trying out your product now after years of playing on Android easy interface. I think it a good move for MS to give away 8.1 to increase its user base. I been trying out different flavours of Linux lately and are they ever awesome now! But no matter how excellent (and free) they are, I keep coming back to Windows beacuse of one thing the relative ease of getting software, mainly games. Tons of freeware utilities that are easy to use and almost all games are available for Windows. I, for one, will be upgrading to 8.1 when it is available. Of course, I continue to have the dual or triple boot to Linux so I can have access to a free, fast, and reliable OS. Install the free wine app on your Linux distro. This is easily done using Synaptic Package Manager app (apt get). Many programs and games written for windose will work on Linux with wine. Not everything of course will work, you can also dual boot with XP which runs almost everything, or install the free virtualbox with XP inside of Linux. The Best option is to use the many native apps and games with Linux. PS1 and some others will work with installed eluminator apps as well. Not everything works with wine, this is true. But check out virtualbox from sun. Its a free app that lets you run windows, and other operating systems as vm inside of linux like an app. Most likely you game might work that way. Used to played a lot of Sid Myer games like Civilization. As Wine matured those began to work. Maybe someday your games will too? By running GNU/Linux as your main system, you can avoid the MS tax, the crashes, the malware, the bloatware, and the privacy concerns of a company without ethics like Microsoft. You can even change your user interface with a different one if you so desire. It is also free, both free of cost and as in it will set you free. But do not forget our main purpose. Free softwares. They are not good because they are free like free beer. It because they are free like in freedom. Free of spyware, free of restrictive license and free to be innovated, I don get why people are still using MS softwares when they can have at least, a good free software alternative that runs great on Windows. I thinking about KDE/Qt software for windows. They are just awesome. I like Okular which I think is way better and adobe reader or Gwenview which can read any image format. Not like the one who included with Windows. Oh and, not talking about VLC and Firefox. The only reason I paid for Vista and Windows 7 was because of DirectX, else I would still be running Windows XP. I hate how they removed hardware profiles, I shouldn have to buy better hardware just so my OS can run 100 of unused services in the background Its not like MS have ever provided any support, so they cant say that being able to disable services causes a support issue. Let me decide what/how my OS runs! If BF2 ran on Linux, I would have switched my primary OS years ago MS should recognize the value they have in DirectX and build something around that.
